It has been announced from Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty The Queen has been graciously pleased to appoint the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, The Lord Shuttleworth, KCVO, to be a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter (KG).

Lord Shuttleworth will take the Oath and be invested with the Garter Insignia by The Queen, as Sovereign of the Order, at the annual Garter Ceremony at Windsor Castle, which this year takes place on Monday 13 June.

The Ceremony is also attended by other members of the Royal Family, including The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Princess Royal.

Lord Shuttleworth was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire on 13 January 1997 and has served as Chairman of the Association of Lord-Lieutenants since 2008. He was a Member of the Council of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1998-2014 and served as Chairman of the Council from January 2006 until December 2014.

Lord Shuttleworth said: “What a lovely surprise this is. I know how much is due to all the people and organisations in Lancashire who have given me so much help and support.”

On Sunday 12 June, the day before the Garter Ceremony, Lord Shuttleworth, along with members of the Lancashire Lieutenancy, Civic and council representatives and those in the county who have also been awarded an Honour, will be attending a service in Blackburn Cathedral to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday, to which members of the public are welcome.
