Praise for Key Stage 2 results

County Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “This year’s Key Stage 2 results for 11-year-olds are impressive. I am absolutely thrilled, and very proud, of how well our primary school children are doing.

“Provisional results indicate that 81% of Lancashire pupils have gained a level four or above in reading, writing and mathematics combined. This is a slight increase on last year and is higher than the national average of 80%.

“Pupils are also making really good progress at school with over 90% of our pupils making the expected progress between the ages of 7 and 11.

“The performance and rate of progress of Lancashire’s primary school children remains above the national average for all of the key measures. These results are a resounding tribute to our primary school staff, governors, parents and of course the children themselves.

“Lancashire County Council staff support almost all of our primary schools and it is great to know that they are helping them to build such strong foundations for when pupils move on to secondary education.”
