Pensioner, 72, seriously injured after tram collision

Lancashire Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured following a tram collision in Cleveleys.

Police were called around 11.50am yesterday (Tuesday, February 20) after reports of an accident on Rossall Road.

A tram travelling northbound towards Cleveleys had been involved in a collision with a 72-year-old woman. The woman, from Poulton, suffered serious head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

No-one else was injured during the incident.

The road was closed for more than three hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Police are appealing for information and are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision.

Sgt Steve Hardman, of Lancashire Police, said: “An investigation is underway following a collision between a tram and pedestrian in Cleveleys.

“The pedestrian, a 72-year-old woman, has suffered a number of serious head injuries and my thoughts are with her at this time.

“We are urging anyone who saw what happened to contact us immediately. A number of people were in the area at the time of the collision and I believe several people will have seen what happened.”
