Free sessions are on offer, to help people get online and learn basic IT skills, during ‘Get Online Week’ from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October.
Partners in the Go ON Warrington Partnership including Warrington Borough Council, LiveWire and Golden Gates Housing Trust have organised a series of sessions to help residents get online.
The sessions are ideal for those who don’t have access to the internet or the skills they need to make the most of it, to be able to bank online, job hunt, shop, keep in touch with friends or just learn more about using a computer.
The annual Get Online Week campaign aims to engage thousands of people across the country and inspire them to get online and see what the internet could do for them.
A number of initiatives are taking place in Warrington during this week, including the launch of the new website go-onwarrington.co.uk by the Go ON Partnership. The website is a central information point for all you need to know about getting and staying online.
There will also be a drop-in session at Contact Warrington on Thursday 15 October between 10 – 3pm.
Cllr Hitesh Patel, executive board member for personnel and communications, said: “More than 19,000 adults in the town don’t have access to the internet or the skills they need to get the most from it. However small your query, whether you need help with buying groceries online, or getting in touch with relatives through social media, we can support you to get online.
“We can help with the basics including searching for information, setting up email addresses, adding attachments, uploading photos, browsing the internet and word processing.”
Roy Smith, GGHT Chair said: “We know that for some people computers and the internet can be a little scary and that they often need a helping hand to get them started. We hope as many people as possible will come along to our Get Online Week events and give getting online and digital a go.”
