United 1-2 Kidsgrove Athletic

Skelmersdale United fell yet again to a narrow 1 goal defeat, this time at the hands of promotion chasing Kidsgrove Athletic. United didn’t get off to the best of starts, going a goal behind after just 10 minutes, Arron Bott’s cross found Adu-Gyamfi and with space in the box the big striker crashed home unchallenged.

Sam Ashton kept out at Knapper drive on 20 minutes to keep United in the game with United’s best attacking options coming from the boot of youngster Elliott Morris but to many times there was no one there to put away the good work of the “wizard on the wing”.

Skem were thrown a lifeline just before half time when Morris was upended in the box, dusting himself down he could only see his shot brilliantly saved by visiting keeper Sam Booth but with Morris reacting the quickest to divert the ball home from the rebound.

United again fell behind early in the second half Gyamfi setting up Jepson who smashed home from inside the box. There was “No luck” for United as Booth, rightly named Man of the Match by the visitors pulled of a series of saves to deny Prescott, McLoughlin and Morris as United pushed for an equalizer their second half play had deserved. United brought on winger Sam Turner who again tested Booth, the keeper being equal to anything United could muster.

It was the 5th game on the trot that United had fallen by just the one goal, Manager Richard Brodie commented “We created enough chances today to win the game, we were missing Max McCarthy up front but we should have taken points from this game, we are desperately short of a bit of luck at both ends of the park, as the saying goes “You make your own luck” and at this moment we are not making any. We go again next week when we travel to Glossop who are just a point better off than us. They beat us here early in the season but by a fine margin, let’s hope lady luck is shining”.
