We are appealing for information after a 79-year-old woman was robbed of her necklace while walking on the promenade at Blackpool.

The incident occurred sometime between 12pm and 12.10pm yesterday (August 23rd), on the middle stretch of promenade opposite the Imperial Hotel.

The victim and three family members were approached by a lone male who grabbed the victim from behind and pulled her necklace from around her neck. She fell to the ground and the offender made off in an unknown direction.

The offender has been described as a white male, of slim build, approximately 6ft tall, with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a grey t-shirt and dark-coloured shorts or trousers.

Detective Sergeant Neil Smith, of Blackpool Police, said: “This was a particularly nasty attack on an elderly woman in broad daylight.

“The victim has been left extremely shaken and we would now urge anybody who saw the incident, or who can help us identify the offender, to please get in touch.”

Anybody with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 608 of August 23rd.
