Woman, 43, injured in Morecambe robbery

We are appealing for information after a woman was attacked with a crow bar during a robbery in Morecambe.

Police were called to Royal Lancaster Infirmary around 12.45am today (Tuesday, March 29) following reports a woman had been assaulted.

The victim, a 43-year-old woman from Morecambe, had been walking on Claremont Road around 10.30pm last night (March 28) when she was approached by two men.

One of the males stopped the woman and demanded money before searching her pockets. When the victim refused to hand over cash, the man pulled a crow bar from his pocket and hit the female, cutting her forehead.

The 43-year-old fell to the floor and shouted for help before the man started searching her pockets again, taking a Nokia mobile phone.

Both men then ran away towards the alleyway between Claremont Road and Clarendon Road.

The victim was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment where the incident was reported to officers.

The first offender is described as white, of slim build with short spiky blonde hair and aged in his mid-20s. He was wearing a long grey coat and blue jeans.

The second male is described as white, of slim build, with grey hair and aged in his early-50s. He also had a lazy eye.

Officers are appealing for information following the attack.

Sgt Simon Balderstone, of Lancashire Police, said: “This was a particularly nasty and vicious robbery which left a woman needing treatment for a bad head injury.

“It was a harrowing ordeal for the victim involved and we are keen to find those responsible for this cowardly attack.

“We would like to speak to anyone with information about the incident and would urge them to contact police immediately.”
