Witchcraft and wizardry at Central Library

0

Central Library held a magical event to share J.K. Rowling’s wondrous stories of witchcraft and wizardry, on the first ever Harry Potter Book Night, celebrated globally.

Around 250 witches and wizards of all ages gathered at the library between 5 – 6:30pm, with many dressed in their chosen Hogwarts House regalia. Muggles were welcomed too.

Attendees were able to go through the Sorting Hat experience and have their pictures taken with real owls like Harry’s faithful messenger Hedwig. There were plenty of spellbinding arts and crafts for the children to have fun with and an adapted version of Quidditch was organised in the junior library area.

Sue Williamson, Head of Libraries, said: “The books have captured the imagination of children and adults alike, making reading cool. The turnout was fantastic, and we’ve had lots of great feedback from those that came. We were thrilled to help more children and their guardians discover this magical series.”
