Families flocked to Chorley over the festive period to visit and take part in the town’s Christmas attractions.

Over 9,000 people visited Chorley to go ice skating in Chorley’s Winter Wonderland, take a ride on Chorley’s Santa Express and visit Father Christmas in his grotto in Market Walk shopping centre.

The attractions, which were hosted and organised by Chorley Council with support from Market Walk shopping centre, saw thousands of families enjoying the festive fun with Chorley’s Santa Express selling out in just two weeks when tickets went on sale in October.

Councillor Peter Wilson, Deputy Leader of Chorley Council, said: “It has been fantastic to see so many people visiting Chorley this Christmas and enjoying the festive attractions with their family and friends.

“The feedback has been extremely positive with many people telling us how much they have enjoyed ice skating, having a drink and something to eat in the tipis and meeting Father Christmas, both in Astley Hall and in the new grotto in Market Walk.

“These types of attractions and events are putting Chorley on the map with many people visiting from across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and even Cheshire and Merseyside. They provide a real boost for the local economy and we’d like to thank everyone for visiting and supporting Chorley town centre.”

Chorley Winter Wonderland closed its candy cane doors on Sunday, 6 January, after being open for just over four weeks. The winter wonderland, which was located on Cleveland Street car park, included a real ice rink, Betty’s Tipis, a Bavarian fun house, fairground ride and stalls selling festive food. Over 5,500 people visited while it was open.

“We have already started to think about Christmas 2019 and how we can ensure even more people can enjoy our festive attractions,” added Coun Wilson.

“We are working with local traders to look at the possibility of extending the Christmas market and are will be providing more details throughout the year.”
