Gardening enthusiasts who are looking for tips on how to exhibit at Chorley Flower Show can speak to experts at a workshop on Saturday 4 June.

The session has been arranged by Chorley and District Gardening Society, which is organising the amateur section in conjunction with Chorley Council, to encourage new entrants to take part.

There will be practical hints and tips on how to best display flowers, fruit and vegetables at a flower show competition.

David Brown, Chairman of Chorley & District Gardening Society, said: “The flower show was an amazing success in its first year and one of the many benefits was that it will have encouraged people to do more in their garden and we want to share in that enjoyment at the show.

“There can be a bit of reluctance from people to put in exhibits, perhaps because they’ve not done it before, so we want to provide practical advice that will hopefully see many new exhibitors put in their entries.

“The session has been put on as a result of suggestions from last year’s show so we hope people take up the offer and we hope to see you there.”

The session will be run by experienced gardeners and exhibitors and will be fun as well as informative. You will also be able to get more details on how to enter the amateur section of this year’s show.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “We had tremendous feedback on the first ever Chorley Flower Show and it promises to be even more exciting this year.

“The amateur section was a really popular part of the show and it was great to see so many smiling faces from local people proud to be able to exhibit plants and flowers that they had grown at home.

“It’d be great to see even more entries this year, particularly from children and people who perhaps haven’t taken part in a show before.

“We’ve increased the variety of classes and introduced fruit and vegetables based on the feedback we had from people visiting the event.”

The session will be hosted at Birkacre Garden Centre, on Birkacre Road, between 10am and 12 noon and 1-3pm, on Saturday 4 June. There is no need to book, you can just drop in when is convenient.
