Thoughtless dog owners in your area?

Warrington Borough Council is carrying out an online survey to find out the extent of dog fouling in the borough and to look at ways to help tackle the problem.

Peter Astley assistant director regulation and public protection, said: “We would like to hear from residents about how important the dog fouling issue is for them and how frequently they come across it.

“We know that a lot of people are concerned about dog fouling and we have recently received a number of complaints specifically about fouling on playing fields and around schools.

“Most dog owners act responsibly pick up after their dogs and dispose of the poo bags correctly. Unfortunately a selfish few think it’s okay not to clean up after their pet. The cleaning up not only diverts council funds from other valuable services, it spoils our streets and is a health hazard.

“We’re considering innovative ways of tackling the issue, so please help us by completing this short online survey and share the link with your Warrington based family, friends and neighbours.”

The council already asks residents for help to identify irresponsible dog owners who don’t pick up after their pets by reporting details on their website, www.warrington.gov.uk, or by ringing the Contact Centre on 01925 443322.

Environmental crime enforcement officers appreciate that it is often difficult to witness actual fouling, however they need as much information as possible about the people not bagging and binning. A name and/or address, a description of the person and/or the dog, the time of day that they walk their dog, the route they take. Officers would use this information from residents to tackle thoughtless dog walkers.
