Support for Ormskirk Businesses

Businesses of Ormskirk town centre were given the opportunity to help drive forward their businesses and contribute to shaping a sustainable future for Ormskirk town centre.

Hosted by the Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group, the annual town centre business stakeholder event was attended by around 30 companies, who congregated at The Chapel Gallery.

There were representatives from local traders and national companies with operations in Ormskirk including general retailers, food and drink businesses and professional services. They heard from a Google Digital Garage expert, about promoting their business using digital marketing channels. The presentation proved to be so popular and informative with listeners that extra time was allocated for this bespoke training session to continue.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “The annual town centre business stakeholder event was well attended and a great success. By working together we can ensure that Ormskirk town centre has an even brighter future.”

Nikki Shaw, of Shaw’s Boutique on Burscough Street, said: “This was an excellent event and the Google demonstration was excellent, really useful with practical tips for getting together a digital strategy.  It highlighted to me how I am not using social media to its full advantage. I think, as shopkeepers, we concentrate on the physical aspect of day to day business and the marketing tends to get left on the back burner.  I just want to thank you again for a positive learning experience!”

Ormskirk Town Centre Management Group is made up of a range of organisations with an interest in helping Ormskirk thrive including national and local retailers, Ormskirk Business Action Group, Edge Hill University and Student Union, Ormskirk Community Partnership and West Lancashire Borough Council. The Group has overseen the inception and roll out of new branding for Ormskirk, the launch of www.DiscoverOrmskirk.com alongside other social media platforms to promote Ormskirk, provides support for local businesses and works in partnership with organisers on events such as the Gingerbread Festival. The Group is also currently looking at the merits of introducing a Business Improvement District (BID) for Ormskirk.
