Still time to combat those January blues with #LancashireListens in local libraries

There’s still time to combat those January blues by taking part in the #LancashireListens initiative.

Running until the end of the month, libraries across the county are taking the opportunity to promote reading as a way of lifting people’s spirits and promoting health and wellbeing.

A selection of mood lifting books are available through an interactive app, BorrowBox, allowing library members to download audiobooks straight to their smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers.

The availability of this free service means that customers can browse, download, and listen to items 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You don’t have to remember to bring them back so its impossible to incur a fine.

The app is available for iOS and Android phones, tablets and Kindle Fire.

Three e-audiobooks are available on simultaneous download for the rest of the month, meaning that people can download the books together and discuss. The full collection on the BorrowBox download library includes 3307 e-audiobooks and 8514 eBooks.

County Councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “I’m pleased that we are running #LancashireListens in libraries to help to combat the January blues.

“There’s still time for more people to take part and get engrossed in a good book to lift their mood.

“We’ve made books as accessible as possible so that library members can download their favourite titles no matter where they are, and at any time of the day or night.

“BorrowBox is so handy and easy to use. All our customers need to do is to download the app onto their device and they’ll be able to access books around the clock, from the very best authors.

“I hope that more people take part as it is a great way to start off the New Year in a positive way.”

You can call in at your local library to find out more and take a look at the resources that are available.
