Why not come along and join in with this informal and friendly group where we read and discuss a lively mix of books? A reading group is a great way of sharing the love of reading and inspiring you to try something different.

Lancashire Library provides set of books to readings groups large and small, for all ages, throughout Lancashire for extended loan periods and you can choose a title every month. See our Reading Groups page for details.

This event is free, no ticket required, just drop in.

An Evening in Celebration of Local Authors (Skelmersdale)

Join local authors, including Carol Fenlon, in the celebration Skelmersdale Writers. We are delighted to welcome all to enjoy this company in an informal setting. Friends of Skelmersdale Library will be providing refreshments throughout the evening; come and join us for a hot drink while listening to some breath-taking writing and conversation.

Get online with Learn My Way (Skelmersdale) #digiskills

Every Monday from 10am during term time only

Free 6 week course at your local Library

Free help to get online and learn a number of different skills which could include, using the mouse and keyboard, searching the web safely, applying for jobs completing on-line forms, using email, finding free entertainment, follow your hobbies, using public services and your library online.

These courses uses the short Learn My Way online modules that you choose to meet your requirements with 1:1 support from library staff, Lancashire Adult Learning and volunteers. The courses are self-directed and interactive and allows people to progress at their own pace with support. You can also bring your tablet or laptop along and access this course using the Library’s free Wi-Fi. Once you have enrolled, if you have a computer at home you can access the modules in your own time.

We provide bite-size courses and one to one help. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never used a computer, we can help you! There are also follow on courses you can access if you wish to.

This is a free event, but places are limited, so advance booking is essential

This is a 6 week course of 2 hour sessions. Please ensure you can attend all sessions before registering.

Mindcalm by Lancashire’s Recovery College

Lancashire Recovery College working in partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning offer wellbeing promotion courses for the people of Lancashire.

Mindcalm –

In a busy and hectic world, we could all benefit from slowing down and creating some space, peace and calm.

This short course will be a fantastic start in your search for calm. You will be introduced to a variety of simple techniques to help you relax your mind and discover first-hand the peaceful presence of your own being, experience the power of the present moment and be amazed at how still your mind can be.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All of our courses are available to anyone over 18, please get in touch with us if you would like to attend courses and you are younger than 18, we may have other opportunities available in the near future. You will not be required to bring any ID documents.

What can I bring into the event?

You don’t need to bring anything to the session, course materials, if needed, will be given to all participants, however you may find it useful to bring something to make extra notes in. Bringing a pen or pencil is always a good idea!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will just ask for your name when you arrive, and ask you to complete an enrolment.

If you have enrolled on a Recovery College course before you can just pop your name and email address on the form and we will do the rest. However as we are working in partnership with other organisations who offer the courses freely they may require you to complete some paperwork for them as well.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?

Please let us know if you change the person who is attending, this helps us to manage attendance and to report on activity, it also supports us to understand your progression route so we can support a whole process for you.

If you need to cancel your booking please let us know this as well as we will then be able to offer your space to someone else.

If you are completing a sign up for someone else, such as a person you are working with, please make sure to put their name and their email address, so they will get the reminder email 48 hours before!

 

Little Explorers – Storytime with Stay and Play (Skelmersdale)

Join us for simple stories aimed at very young children, followed by a play session with jigsaws and building blocks, plus time for mums and carers to chat.

Toddler Rhyme Time (Skelmersdale)

Friday 8th November at Skelmersdale Library every Friday from 10am – term time only

Sing-along songs and rhymes with movement and actions for pre-school children from around 18 months upwards. Rhyming is more than just fun, it actually helps young children make connections between sounds and words, encouraging their language development plus the actions help develop motor skills. It will keep your toddler entertained and engaged in learning!

During this time there will be no events planned, we will be muting our staff computers and dimming the lights slightly.
