Skelmersdale Heritage Society reforms

0

Skelmersdale Heritage Society has been formally reconstituted following concern by local residents at its earlier demise. The original society provided a rich source of photographs and information about the town’s mining traditions and its social life. Unfortunately it dwindled in recent years and the website was finally dismantled.

The new society aims to maintain the traditions of the former group and also to track the history of the new town which this year will be 55years old. We hope to develop links with other local organisations and to work together to celebrate our town’s past, present and future.

A new website will be set up shortly and the society’s first public outing will be to the Lathom Park Heritage open day on Sunday September 15th when we will be mounting a display of Skelmersdale memorabilia, old and new. The heritage day runs from 11.00 to 4.00 and more details can be obtained by contacting info@lathomparktrust.org.uk.

Skelmersdale Heritage Society’s next meeting will be held on Thursday 5th September at 7pm at the Wardens social club, Blaguegate Lane, Skelmersdale WN8 8TX. Visitors are welcome free of charge or for more information contact secretary Carol Fenlon (carolfenlon6@gmail.com tel: 01695 728320) or Chairman Mark Boardman (hboardk@hotmail.com).
