Residents who wish to use West Lancashire Borough Council’s chargeable garden waste collection service from 5 June 2017 can sign up and pay from 19 April 2017.  Residents who sign up before 15 May 2017 will be guaranteed no interruption to their service, which will continue as normal on a fortnightly basis.

The charges will apply from 5 June 2017.  It will cost £30 per year for one green bin to be emptied, per year. Householders will also be able to have additional green bins emptied at a cost of £25 each, per year and additional bins can also be purchased if needed.

The quickest and most convenient way to sign up and pay is via the website www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

Residents can choose whether or not to use the garden waste collection service after the free service ends on 2 June.  Residents who decide not to sign up and pay will be able to dispose of garden waste at household waste recycling centres, or compost it.

The Council will, from 19 April, deliver a leaflet to every household in the borough giving information about the changes. Information is also provided at www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

Heidi McDougall, Director of Street Scene Services, said: “Residents who sign up and pay, can enjoy the benefits of using the service on a fortnightly basis, can help minimise the amount of waste going to landfill and contribute towards protecting the environment”.
