Shakespeare Community Symposium

Shakespeare North, in collaboration with Prescot Historic Society, is hosting a community symposium on Saturday 11 November in St Mary’s Church Hall, Prescot

‘Then and Now: Shakespearean Theatre, the Earls of Derby, Prescot and Knowsley’, will include talks from experts on Elizabethan history, 17th century drama and reconstructing Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre.

Where can I buy tickets?

The church hall has a limited number of seats, so please buy your tickets or book early.

Tickets include afternoon tea with biscuits and cakes. Full price is £5 and concessions are £3.50.

Programme

The first session will focus on ‘Histories’ with talks from Dr Bill Shannon on the history of cartography, landscape and agriculture in the North West followed by Dr Rebecca Bailey, a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University, specialising in 17th century literature.

After a break for tea and biscuits, the second session will focus on ‘Modern Theatre Recreation and Performance’ with a talk from Conrad Nelson from award-winning theatre company, Northern Broadsides, and Peter McCurdy whose company was chosen to reconstruct Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London.
