We are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a collision in Colne.

At around 6.20pm on Friday, May 21 a 44 year old man from Colne was riding his Suzuki motorcycle back from Kirkby Lonsdale along the A682 generally in the direction of Colne when he conducted an overtake manoeuvre on a gold VW Passat just before a right hand bend. Following the successful overtake he rode onto the soft verge where he began to lose control before colliding with a substantial dry stone wall.

As a result of the collision he was thrown from his motorcycle and received significant head injuries and numerous broken ribs. He was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment where his condition is described as critically ill.

A full investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.

PS 224 Rob Gomery of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic accident that has occurred on a rural road, with emergency services and the air ambulance attending. I am appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision, given assistance to the emergency services or may have seen the motorcycle prior to the collision which at the time was riding with two other friends.”

Anyone with information about the collision please contact Lancashire Constabulary on 101 quoting log LC-20160520-1230.
