Self-Care Week in Lancashire libraries

0

Lancashire libraries are taking part in a national scheme which aims to help people to look after their own health and wellbeing.

Libraries across the county will take the opportunity during Self-Care Week, which runs from Monday 18 November to Sunday 24 November, to remind people about effective ways of looking after their own health, helping to prevent avoidable conditions and living a healthier and happier life.

Supporting this year’s theme of Choose Self-Care for Life, activities and events taking place in libraries during the week include Yoga, relaxation and creative art sessions, eating to stay healthy guidance and drop-in advice from Age UK and the NHS.

Pharmacy First drop in sessions will also take place so that people can find out what their local pharmacy can offer regarding health care and advice.

Some libraries will also be hosting wellbeing festivals during the week.

In addition to holding a variety of special events, some of the regular weekly activities will also include information specific to self-care week. Information on initiatives including Reading for Health which provides helpful information and self-help techniques for managing common conditions, including anxiety and depression, will also be featured.

Julie Bell, head of libraries, museums, culture and registrars at Lancashire County Council, said: “I’m pleased that we are taking this extra opportunity to promote health and wellbeing, and taking part in this national initiative. Making sure that people are aware of how they can treat common illnesses, manage long- term conditions and avoid preventable illnesses is obviously incredibly useful.

“I hope that people take the opportunity to go along to a library and see what has been made available for them.”
