Schools chief praises pupils for GCSE effort

Today (Friday 22) County Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “Our students can be justifiably proud of themselves.

“We won’t be able to make a proper comparison with national statistics until they come out in October, but the fact that our students overall have almost matched last year’s results whilst exams have become increasingly challenging can only be a good sign.

“It shows that the standards in our schools are genuinely high despite continued changes in marking and curriculum.

“I’m really impressed by what I’ve seen in our schools since I became cabinet member, and I’m proud of our teachers and students for their hard work.”
