The Mayor of West Lancashire is calling on all primary schools in West Lancashire to make hats fit for a fabulous tea party to help her raise money for four worthy causes.

Councillor Liz Savage has written to head teachers to ask them to organise a competition within their school to make a hat for the mayor.

The Mayor has requested that the schools hold the competition between Friday 30 September and Friday 14 October 2016.

Each child should design their hat to represent their interests. Schools taking part should select a winner from foundation and key stage 1 classes and another winner from key stage 2 classes.

To enter the competition the Mayor has requested a donation of £1 as she is trying to raise £52,000 to be split between the Neo Natal Unit at Ormskirk Hospital; The Birchwood Centre; The Artz Centre in Birch Green; and ‘The Civic’ in Ormskirk.

The winners will be invited to a Mad Hatters’ Tea Party with the Mayor in the Mayor’s Room on Thursday 27 October 2016. They will also go to the Council Chamber with the Mayor where she will choose the winning hat from the Borough and wear it.

Councillor Savage said: “This is a really fun competition for children to enter and I hope the schools will get behind it and help raise money for four very good causes.”

Winners need to be notified to the Mayor’s office on 01695 585033.
