Report local issues with the newly improved Report It app

Many residents in Wigan Borough are already feeling the benefit of using the Report It app and now there are even more categories available.

As part of Wigan Council’s informal contract with residents, ‘The Deal’, people are being urged to go online to report problems and the app has already proven extremely popular.

New categories such as reporting potholes to noise nuisances officially went live on the app on Tuesday 1st March, meaning that residents are able to communicate digitally with the council about much more.

A problem can be accurately reported by using the app to send the location of the issue with GPS signals. People are also able to take a picture on a phone with a description of what the problem is as long as it is on public land.

Councillor Terry Halliwell, cabinet member for customer transformation at Wigan Council, said: “Those who have used the Report It App since it launched last May are already enjoying the wealth of benefits being online brings, such as reporting issues as and when they see them or when is convenient, whilst also sending the council an exact location of the problem, leading to a speedier solution.

“A major part of The Deal is getting more people online and allowing residents to have a voice, which will help us save money while also giving more flexibility to the people in the borough. With an ever expanding number of services coming online, there has never been more reason to make the most of this resource.”

The app is one of the newest ways to let people get in touch with Wigan Council and have their say. The app is available for IPhone, Windows and Android phones and can be downloaded from the relevant app store.

Already, many have been using other online tools such as MyAccount, to keep track of council tax payments, view their housing benefit account, to book appointments for registrar’s services and use the council website to make a range of transactions and report issues such as missed bins.

Those who do not have access to the internet at home or a phone to download the app can use computers at libraries across the borough to report issues.

There are also a range of Get Online courses designed to help open up the online world at venues throughout Wigan and Leigh.
