Lancashire County Council’s libraries are helping people to discover the importance of newspapers of the time as a way of finding out about World War 1.

Staff will hold informative talks in March, exploring how both national and local press reported World War 1.

Claire Sutton, community heritage manager, said: “We’re lucky to have an excellent collection of newspapers dating from this time.

“Visitors will be able to learn more about what was reported and how stories were covered.

“We’ll also examine some personal stories, letters, advertisements and obituaries of local people in the newspapers.

“These sorts of resources can be really useful for anyone trying to trace a World War 1 ancestor or those interested in this period of history.”

The talks are free to attend but booking is essential as places are limited.

Details of the talks are as follows:

• Wednesday 2 March, 2.30pm, at Great Harwood Library, Blackburn
• Friday 4 March, 3pm, at Haslingden Library, Rossendale

Either call 0300 123 6703 or call in at the libraries to book a place.
