Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s breast screening services will host a one-mile walk through a Wigan park to help raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Parade in Pink, will take place on Saturday, October 19 from 9.30am to help to raise vital funds for the Trust’s Women’s Wish Fund and improve breast services for eligible women across South Lancashire.
The event, which will run from 9.30am until 11am will begin at Mesnes Park’s bandstand and participants are encouraged to turn up dressed in pink and/or pink fancy dress.
A local Zumba instructor will be on hand to lead a warm-up at 9.30am before Matthew Melling, aka The Wigan Runner, officially opens the walk at 10am.
The mayor of Wigan, Councillor Steve Dawber will be among attendees, as will Wigan runner, Jenny Meadows.
Janet Ellison, Patient Navigator for South Lancashire Breast Screening, said: “We would love to see lots of smiling faces walking around the park with us on Saturday.
“Please come and join us to help us raise awareness, and funds, to help improve breast screening services across South Lancashire.”
Stalls will also be set up at the bandstand with activities such as hook-a-duck, pink raffle, teddy tombola, refreshments and pink treat bags. Glitter face painting will also be available.
