Ormskirk Christmas lights will shine for shoppers in the festive season

Ormksirk is going to look even more festive in the run up to Christmas as the town’s Christmas lights are going to be on for longer at no extra cost to the Council Taxpayer.

The town is already a great place to do Christmas shopping with a number of independent shops selling unique gifts complementing a range of well-known national retailers.

Now West Lancashire Borough Council is helping to make the retail therapy experience even better by turning on the Christmas lights during business hours in the town in response to requests from the community and local businesses.

The lights previously came on at dusk. They will now be on from 7am to 1am but as the bulbs in the lights are low cost LED ones this will not create any extra cost.

Councillor John Hodson said: “West Lancashire Borough Council is ambitious for the local economy and works well with the local business community throughout the area. The Council was already considering putting the lights on for longer during the day throughout the festive period, when similar requests were received from local businesses and people in the community.

“We are happy to have been able to switch the lights on for longer and make Ormskirk an even more wonderful shopping experience particularly on the dull winter days.  We have had some great feedback about the lights switch on event and the lights themselves.  It was really heartening to see a local resident, posting on the Discover Ormskirk Facebook site, say “The lights in Ormskirk are remarkable.  Just been to York and they are not a patch on Ormskirk.  The town looks fab”.”
