Now is the time to reward and recognise grassroots sport in Wigan Borough, with the deadline fast approaching to nominate sporting heroes for the 2017 Believe Sports Awards.
The borough has plenty of sporting talent and dedication to shout about and your nominations deservedly put the spotlight on volunteers, coaches and clubs who put their hard work and passion into local sport.
Nominations can be made by filling in the Inspiring healthy lifestyles online form before the closing date of Friday 28th July.
Whether it’s recognising an athlete putting in the effort to achieve on the competitive stage, or rewarding a dedicated volunteer for their countless hours of support, your nominations matter, none more so than to 2016 Volunteer of the Year, Dave Grundy.
Dave, of Wigan and Leigh Wrestling Club, said: “To be recognised and nominated was a massive thing for me, but to win Volunteer of the Year was amazing. I would encourage anyone to nominate and recognise someone they respect in our sporting communities.”
Councillor Jim Moodie, Wigan Council’s lead member for leisure added:
“Coaches, volunteers, athletes and clubs across the borough are incredibly talented and dedicated, and the Believe Sports Awards is the perfect opportunity to recognise their commitment and support.
“In Wigan we strongly believe in recognising valuable contributions and every nominee is deservedly put forward, so I would urge people to continue to nominate until the deadline.”
Nominations can be made in the following categories:
Coach of the Year (sponsored by Alliance Leisure)
Club of the Year Sports Achiever of the Year (sponsored by Agilisys)
Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by Wigan Athletic Community Trust)

This year’s prestigious ceremony, organised by Inspiring healthy lifestyles on behalf of Wigan Council, will take place at the DW Stadium on Friday 6th October, with special guests from across the sporting community.
