After years of campaigning about flooding in the area, Lancashire County Council has finally announced that drainage works will take place long New Quay Road. However, it comes with the advice that the County Council proposes to close New Quay Road from Cotton Square to Luneside between 8am and 4pm from Monday 11th Feb to Friday 8th March. Lancashire County Claim the nature of the work is such that the total closure of the roads is required.
Cllr Erica Lewis, Lancashire Labour’s spokesperson for Highways & Transport said, “Lancaster Labour has been chasing the County Council and Environment Agency for action on the many blocked drains and huge puddles on New Quay Road for years. So we are pleased, that this work will finally be done.”
Cllr Erica Lewis will be going through the day by day management plans with highway officers to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.
“However, we are deeply concerned that the proposed traffic order proposes to close the road with no diversions advertised, and no consultation with residents or businesses who may not be able to access their homes and premises during business hours for four weeks.”
“I am urgently working with the county council to secure appropriate diversions are sign posted and in place. I would urge any resident or business with concerns about these access restrictions to get in touch with me urgently so we can ensure they are considered by the county council. We only have until 16th January to raise any concerns.”
