New digital service gives library members round the clock access to thousands of books

The Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillor Pat Ireland and Lynn Glover, were among those to receive a BorrowBox demonstration by St Helens Libraries staff in Church Square as part of a Libraries Week event earlier this month

Library members in St Helens are now just a click away from having thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks at their disposal.

Digital service, BorrowBox has been introduced to St Helens Libraries Service – giving avid readers 24/7 access to a wide range of the very best fiction and non-fiction titles from the world of adult and children’s literature, and audiobooks which are available to download via Android, Apple, Kindle Fire or PC.

One of the unique features of BorrowBox is that as well as not having to pay to reserve books, library users don’t have to worry about incurring charges for a late return – as items will be automatically deleted after a three-week period.

As part of Libraries Week (8 – 14 Oct), the Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillor Pat Ireland and Lynn Glover joined St Helens Libraries staff in Church Square where BorrowBox was demonstrated to new and existing customers who were informed of the other interesting initiatives libraries have to offer local residents.

St Helens Council’s portfolio holder for libraries, Councillor Anthony Burns, said: “BorrowBox is a fantastic new addition to our library service offer as its round the clock availability means it’s more convenient for library members whose work patterns mean it might be difficult for them to physically get down to a library.

“It’s pleasing to hear that public reaction so far has been positive, and I hope it encourages our tech-savvy generation to give it a go and develop a love for reading.”

To celebrate the launch of BorrowBox, St Helens library members who borrow an eBook or eAudiobook before Friday 30 November will be automatically entered into a free prize draw to be in with a chance of winning a 7″ 8GB Samsung Galaxy Tab A, while runners up will win a selection of audio CDs.
