Several Music Production students from Merseyside feature on a CD released by Edge Hill University.

Ormskirk singer and guitarist David Hughes, working under the guise Charity Shop Pop, is one of the featured artists to appear on the Seeds compilation album, with his self-penned track Charlotte amongst the original compositions from a host of vocalists and musicians undertaking the three-year programme.

The project realises the vision of Gary Westhead, Senior Lecturer in Music Sound and Audio Production and Programme Leader for Music Production, to provide a showcase for students while also offering valuable studio and recording experience.

The tracks were recorded at Edge Hill University’s own state-of-the-art studios and at the world-renowned Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, famous for hosting an eclectic range of artists including Coldplay, the Spice Girls, Justin Bieber and Rihanna.

Also available to stream via Soundcloud, the 24-year-old’s indie-influenced ‘80s synth pop has featured on local radio including on Janice Long’s BBC Radio Wales show, has seen singles released on the University’s own record label, Label Recordings, and has played Liverpool Sound City.

Others from the area to feature include singer and guitarist Anthony Madden (Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port), Sam D’Auvin (Crosby – piano and keyboards) and Patrick Ball (Southport – bass) playing on the track Every Part of Me; guitarist Paul Griffiths (West Derby) contributing to Gamma Ray by Bethan Childs – currently No.1 on the playlist – and pianist Sam Davidson (Southport) and drummer Adam Trevor (West Derby) on Ashleigh Williams’ track Runaway.
