Making a new year’s resolution to shed a few pounds and lead a healthier lifestyle? Then Active West Lancs may be able to help you achieve your goals.

New Active Weight Courses are starting the week beginning 7 January 2019 in various venues across the borough including Burscough, Ormskirk, Parbold, Skelmersdale, and Up Holland.

The Course is a free 10 week programme aimed at helping people to lose weight by encouraging them to make better lifestyle choices around diet and exercise.

Each week people can be weighed and a different topic/activity is covered aimed at educating and motivating people to make long term changes. These include:

  • Portion control and nutritional benefits of different food groups (what is a healthy diet?)
  • Fat and sugar content of different foods, eating out and energy value of meals
  • Behaviour change and habit
  • Food and mood
  • How to read food labels and what they really mean
  • Recommended weekly physical activity and the benefits and contribution to overall wellbeing and weight loss

Weekly goals are set to motivate people to be consistent and a free booklet/guide is provided to record achievements and weight loss. A variety of visual resources and interactive activities are used within each hour long session.

The average weight loss for these 10 week courses is approximately between 7lbs and 14lbs.
