Liverpool Lime Street station will be closed today and tomorrow (Sunday 7 and Monday 8 January) while emergency repair work is carried out to a structure that carries overhead wires over all four lines.

Severe corrosion was found on the structure and trains are unable to pass safely underneath. Network Rail engineers will carry out emergency repairs but these repairs are expected to take a minimum of 24 hours to complete.

Passengers travelling to and from Liverpool Lime Street station today (Sunday 7 January) and tomorrow (Monday 8 January) are advised to check with their train operator before travelling.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “All lines to and from Liverpool Lime Street are closed while we carry out emergency repairs. We will work as quickly as possible to reopen all lines. I’d like to apologise for the disruption this will cause and ask passengers to check before they travel.”
