A well-known West Lancashire landmarks – the Lightcube – will be lit up in red and blue to mark World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March 2018.

Communities across the world are celebrating World Down Syndrome Day to raise awareness and help increase people’s understanding about Down Syndrome. Visit www.worlddownsyndromeday.org for more information.

The Lightcube, on Exchange Island in Skelmersdale, is a 7 metres high stainless steel structure, with the top two metres covered with fibre-optic lights controlled by a computer.

The Council is arranging the special light display in response to a request from Skelmersdale mother-of-three Mrs Gillian Haworth, whose youngest son Tom, aged five, has Down’s Syndrome.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “I will be delighted to see the Lightcube shining red and blue to mark World Down Syndrome Day, as this is a cause which is close to the hearts of many in West Lancashire.”
