Crosby and Bootle libraries are in the top 5 most used Wi-Fi hotspots in a community-based national scheme.

Last year, Crosby, Bootle and Formby libraries all signed up to be part of a government initiative to roll out free Wi-Fi to community venues, in partnership with Barclay’s Bank and BT.

There are around 100 venues nationally in the pilot scheme and figures reveal Crosby and Bootle are amongst the most popular locations for free Wi-Fi use.

BT support the set-up of free Wi-Fi connectivity while Barclays Digital Eagles – specially trained members of Barclays’ staff – provide free technology advice to help local people build confidence and develop the skills they need to succeed in the digital world.

Sefton Council already supplies free Wi-Fi in three additional libraries – The Atkinson, Meadows and Netherton.

Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said: “We are delighted with this news as it clearly shows how partnership work can really help the council provide the sort of services the local community wants.

“Schemes like this help more people in Sefton to take advantage of the many opportunities which exist online.

“From education, interacting with friends, job opportunities and access to government and health services all available online, it has never been more important for members of our community to start their own digital journey.”
