Lancashire libraries Get Creative

0

Lancashire libraries are again taking part in a national festival aimed at inspiring and encouraging everyone to have a go at being creative.

All of the libraries will be participating in the UK-wide celebration of ‘have-a-go’ creativity from Saturday 11 May to Sunday 19 May.

The nine-day Get Creative 2019 festival has grown from a one-day event in 2016, to a weekend in 2017. Libraries across the county will be putting on activities and taster sessions aimed at inspiring and celebrating everyday creativity.

Activities in libraries for the festival will include an interactive children’s craft session, a photography talk and demonstration, Lego robotics, writing, a drumming workshop and Scottish country dancing and singing.

Taking part in the majority of the events will be free, to make it as easy and accessible as possible for as many people to try a new creative pastime or hobby. Some activities could have a small charge to cover the costs of the materials to be used. Some of the events will also need to be booked.

The Get Creative Festival is delivered in partnership with cultural organisations including the BBC, Arts Council England, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Arts Council of Wales, the Crafts Council, Creative Scotland and Voluntary Arts.

Julie Bell, head of libraries, museums, culture and archives at Lancashire County Council, said:” We hope that the festival will once again encourage people to find out how to get creative on their doorstep and give people the chance to try something different, with the various hands-on events we’ve got on offer.

“There’s also the opportunity for people to try something new.

“Last year’s festival was a real success, so I’m pleased that all our libraries are taking part in it again. Wherever you live in the county there will be something creative on offer.”
