Lancashire County Council is doing a public consultation on their decision to increase the charges for day care.
Many elderly people depend on day care services to get out of the house with care and support, to avoid being stuck behind four walls all day. Those that are forced to pay for this service will have to pay an inflation-busting 20% extra. Those that suffer from dementia will have to pay a whopping £69 for the service. The conservative-run county council are legally obliged to offer a public consultation on this change. Access the consultation on www.lancashire.gov.uk/getinvolved
If they are unable to pay for this care they may be unable to access it in the coming financial year. In 2019/20 over £77 million of cuts will be taken off the council budget in 2019/20 due to the 60% reduction in central government funding, the rate support grant.
Councillor Jean Parr, member of the labour shadow cabinet for Adult Care Services said “These savage cuts will prevent elderly and disabled people from leaving their homes for the only company they may get all week. If you think it is wrong for them to be treated this way, please fill in the consultation on the council website. The consultation closes on 20th May, so do it now before you forget.”
