Lancashire’s young people have marked their crosses next to their preferred candidates and elected their representatives to the Youth Parliament.

From February to March this year, 3,379 young people have voted to select their five representatives at the Youth Parliament.

One more MYP has been chosen by the Children in Care Council and the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) forum.

The young people who have been elected to represent each area are:

• Preston – Megan Ginley
• Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire – Millie Edwards
• Lancaster, Fylde and Wyre – Lily Cooper
• Burnley and Pendle – Kelsey Hewitt
• Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale – Ambar Siddique

Evie Smith has been elected by the Children in Care Council and the SEND forum.

Each of the young people will represent their area for two years.

Lancashire County Council’s head of the Children and Family Wellbeing Service, Debbie Duffell, said: “I’m delighted that so many young people took part in this. Thank you to them for getting so involved.

“I’m so impressed with the commitment that the young people have showed, both to the democratic process and to supporting their local communities.

“This is another demonstration of the positive contribution young people make.”

The young people who have been elected will organise events and projects, run campaigns, and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to young people.

In the past two years, one million young people have voted in UK Youth Parliament elections.
