Knowsley secures £2m to improve the Key Route Network

0

Knowsley Council has secured grant funding of £2m from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Local Growth Fund to progress with the Bank Lane Corridor Improvement scheme in Kirkby.

The scheme aims to improve traffic flow and capacity on the Bank Lane Corridor in Kirkby, which forms part of the Liverpool City Region Key Route Network. The Key Route Network is made up of the strategic highway routes that are vital to growth in the Liverpool City Region.

Proposed works include:-

· At the junction of Bank Lane, Boyes Brow and Headbolt Lane, the number of north bound approach lanes will be increased by widening the carriageway, improving junction capacity and traffic flow. In addition, traffic signals will be upgraded, a layby will be constructed on Boyes Brow and the carriageway will be resurfaced.

· At the junction of Bank Lane and St Kevin’s Drive, the number of northbound and southbound approach lanes will be increased by widening the carriageway. This will improve junction capacity and traffic flow. In addition, there will be improvements for pedestrians crossing this junction and the carriageway will be resurfaced.

· At the Puffin crossing on Bank Lane, near Melling Drive, the traffic signals will be upgraded (improving access for cyclists across Bank Lane) and the carriageway will be resurfaced.

A condition of the funding is to ensure that the scheme is completed by 31 March 2020.

Work is expected to start next month.

This is one of 15 highway schemes funded through the £25m Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Single Investment Fund, funded by capital from central Government’s Local Growth Fund 3.
