Knowsley Council supports ‘eat more veg’ campaign

Knowsley Council is supporting Veg Power’s campaign to get the UK eating more of it.

Veg Power is an initiative created out of the work of The Food Foundation and Peas Please.

The campaign will be showcased nationally this month as Veg Power has teamed up with ITV to launch a major new national campaign which aims to change the way people think and feel about vegetables, inspiring us all to eat more veg.

It will also generate ideas to help make veg more appealing to everyone and make veg fun – encouraging you to create a character out of veg, developing colouring plates with different veg and finding wonky veg as well as sharing recipe ideas for you to try.  There will also be opportunities to be a veg champion / veg hero with children sharing their veg stories to show others that veg is fun and delicious.

The campaign also has the backing of Sir John Hegarty, Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall and Jamie Oliver.

The campaign is funded by the Veg Power fund, set up to tackle the huge rise in diet related illness across the UK by encouraging everyone in Britain to eat more veg.

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “Research shows that 80% of younger children and 95% of teenagers do not eat enough vegetables. This is something we can all play our part in to address and encourage everyone to eat more veg.  Given they are low in fat and sugar and high in fibre and nutrients, eating more veg is a great way to eat healthier and I’d encourage everyone to start eating more veg from today.”
