A renowned folk band will bring their array of instruments, including many they’ve built themselves, to three Lancashire venues this month.

Churchfitters will perform in St. Anne’s Library on Thursday 23 March at 7pm, followed by The Dog Inn in Belthorn on Friday 24 March at 7.45pm and Melling Village Institute near Carnforth on Saturday 25 March at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the shows, which are suitable for ages 5+, can be booked directly from the venues. For the St. Annes show they can be purchased directly from library staff or booked by emailing stannes.library@lancashire.gov.uk. For The Dog Inn, the number to call is 01254 433188 and for Melling the number is 01524 222225.

Churchfitters are a folk band like no other. A double bass made out of a saucepan. Heart-wrenching vocals accompanied by a musical saw. Foot-stompingly fast fiddle mixed with infectious funk-rock rhythms and traditional tunes reinvigorated with mesmerising jazz sax.

The musicians’ stage bristles with instruments – adding flute, banjo, dulcimer, tin whistle, guitar, ukulele, electric hub-cap bass-bouzouki and a sackful of percussion to their ensemble. And let’s not forget the unique ‘bing-bong’ machine made out of hack-saw blades.

Throw in some exquisite harmonies, a slew of startlingly original songs and a few jokes that create instant rapport and you’ve got a high energy show that always leaves audiences cheering.

The trio, who are based in France, comprises Brit siblings Rosie and Chris Short alongside Frenchman, Boris Lebret.

Speaking ahead of the Lancashire shows, Chris said:

“We are very excited about our first ever rural tour in Lancashire. I’m polishing the fiddle, tuning up my glass harp and sharpening my musical saw while Boris is donning his magic boots and readying his Mercedes-Benzouki to accompany Rosie’s gorgeous vocals, sax, whistle and banjo. We can’t wait to meet our audiences!”

The shows form part of Spot On Lancashire’s spring season of touring, taking professional arts events to rural venues and libraries across the county.
