An appeal for information has been made by police after an altercation on a street in Preston which has left a man with a head injury. The incident occurred at about 10:10pm on Friday 20th March on Fishwick Parade, after it is believed that the 45 year old man has gone to confront a group of youths for intimidating his family outside an address on Acregate Lane, earlier that evening.

The group started throwing traffic cones and pieces of wood at the man, which has caused a laceration to the man’s head. Once the man was on the floor, he was punched and kicked by members of the group.

The man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital in a stable condition.

Sgt Paul McLernon, Preston Police, said ‘I am asking anyone who witnessed this incident to get in touch with us. I would like to reassure the local community that this type of street disorder is rare and we are providing extra patrols in the area.

‘We are investigating exactly how this incident has come to occur and would encourage anyone with information to speak to a local officer or call us.’
