Two attempted robberies in Leigh are being investigated by police. The first occurred at about 11:15am on Monday 19th January 2015, when a 28 year old woman had been walking on Dakins Road. As the woman approached the junction with Hope Carr Road, she noticed a man who was cycling behind her. The man said something and the woman turned around to see the man sat on his bike holding a knife.

The woman told the man to go away and she threatened to call the police before the man rode off.

The man has been described as being white, in his mid-20s; he was wearing two hooded tops with the hood pulled tight around his face. One top was blue and the underneath top being black.

About 25 minutes later, a 19 year old man was working on Arrow Street when a man approached him on a bike wearing a white clown mask. The man pulled out half a snooker cue from his jacket and has demanded that the victim give him his iPad. He has then pulled out a knife before the man has run off and the offender has cycled towards Dakins Road.

The man has been described as being white, with a medium build, he was 5ft 11in tall, in his 20s, and he had short dark hair and had been wearing a dark tracksuit and was riding a blue or black BMX bike.

Detective Constable Claire Hughes said ‘Due to where the offences took place and the timeframe, we are linking both these incidents.  On both occasions, a knife was seen which left both victims terrified and fearing for their safety.

‘I would ask anyone if they saw a man fitting the descriptions in or around the Dakins Road area to call us.  Were you also approached and you did not report it?  If you were but thought nothing of it, we are keen to hear from you.’

Anybody who has got any information should get in touch with police on 0161 856 7292 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
