Have your say on proposed changes to organ donation

0

Residents are being urged to have their say on plans to make it easier to for people to give consent to be an organ donor.

Currently anyone who wants to donate their organs after death has to “opt in” through the donor register or by telling their family.

Plans to transform the way organ donation works would presume an adult is a willing organ donor unless they have opted out.

People who donate their organs and tissue after they die help save thousands of lives in England each year. Just one donor could transform the lives of up to 9 other people.

Although 8 out of 10 people say they would want to donate their organs and tissue after their death, most people never register to be organ donors.

Three people die a day due to a lack of suitable organs.

The government consultation wants to find out what you think about how the new rules could work. There are nine questions it would like you to answer before the consultation closes on 6 March 2018.

Further information about the proposals is available on the Department of Health and Social Care website and you can take part in the consultation until 6 March 2018.
