Green fingered residents to be shown how to grow their own food

Green fingered residents who would like to taste the fruits of their labour will be given the chance to learn how they can grow their own food this spring. Wigan and Leigh Homes, will be teaming up with local tenant and keen gardener Wilf Ford, and they will be out and about in the local communities across Wigan Borough during April and May to show tenants how they can create their own fruit and vegetable patches.

A similar event was held last year, which proved to be a roaring success, with 469 tenants participating in the free sessions.

Wilf Ford, from Hindley, said ‘Growing your own fruit and vegetables is really easy and very satisfying. It can help bring the food bill down and provides important skills. I’ve been growing my own food for years now and I love it.’

Any tenants who are interested in learning how they can grow their own food can contact Wigan and Leigh Homes tenant participation team on 01942 486557, freephone 0800 389 7652 or they can email enquiries@walh.co.uk to book a visit to their community.

All of those who attend will be given a selection of potato seeds, onion sets, vegetable plug plants as well as a variety of seeds to get them started.
