Good progress being made at school campus

Building work at Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School has continued at pace over the summer holidays.

A timelapse video released by the school shows some of the work, which has already taken place at its Oswaldtwistle campus. The video can be viewed at youtu.be/2lMqLTTjIAs?rel=0

Last term pupils at the school moved to Hameldon Community College in Burnley to allow the work to be carried out.

In their best interest and safety, pupils will be taught at the Burnley site throughout the next academic year while a major rebuild takes place. They have exclusive use of the site.

The move to the college last term was successful for both staff and pupils, who enjoyed the facilities offered.

Headteacher Andrew Williams said: “Real progress is being made with the rebuild at Rhyddings, but we’ll continue to focus entirely on the pupils’ education at Hameldon, whilst this work is ongoing.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to be welcoming everyone back and taking advantage of the learning opportunities in these great facilities.

“The recent move to Hameldon Community College went really well.

“The facilities are great and the pupils adapted to their new school superbly.

“We are proud of them and we look forward to welcoming our new intake.”

County Councillor Phillippa Williamson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “Good progress is being made with the building work at Rhyddings, and we are also really pleased with how well the temporary move to Hameldon Community College went.

“Educating pupils at Hameldon Community College is a really practical solution as it gives them extra stability and allows them to also focus entirely on their education.

“The start of the new term is looking very positive.

“The county council will continue to work closely and we will do all we can to help the school.”

Pupils will be taught at the Hameldon Community College site throughout the 2019/20 academic year.

A rebuild of specialist science accommodation, some general teaching areas, dining and kitchen facilities is ongoing at Rhyddings Business and Enterprise College.
