St Helens will once again experience a carnival-like atmosphere when it stages its free annual Summer Streets festival on Saturday 12 August in the town centre.

Expect a line-up of top artists and attractions from the world of comedy, music, dance and theatre – with all the action taking place in Church Square and Church Street from 11am – 4pm.

A large colourful street parade led by the brilliant Brazilian drumming troupe, Katumba will get this year’s event underway as visitors enjoy a variety of street performances, interactive pavement art workshops and children’s craft activities on display throughout the day.

Confirmed acts to date include the amazing M.A.D Stunt Team who will be performing stunts and tricks on mountain bikes; a fast-paced comedy show called ‘The Maniax’ which includes plenty of shenanigans and gags; Epico the Dragon – the biggest, brightest and most beautiful creature ever seen – while the hugely popular double act, Granny Turismo, will return by popular demand to perform their hilarious shopping trolley dance.

Visitors to Summer Streets will also have a whale of a time by stepping inside an 18 metre long inflatable whale where they can watch some brilliantly animated performances – and Roald Dahl fans can be taken on a journey to visit the most marvellous places and see the most wonderful things at a giant inflatable peach attraction where they can enjoy a 20 minute-long storytelling session of James and the Giant Peach.

St Helens Council’s Town Centre Manager, Gary Maddock, said: “For the past few years, Summer Streets has entertained thousands of people of all ages through the wild and wonderful acts on show, so I’m delighted to see it back this year.

“The town centre will be buzzing with performances from all over the world on what will be a day of fabulous free entertainment for all the family to enjoy.”

Many more mesmerizing acts will be announced over the coming days. For regular event updates, go to facebook.com/whatsoninsthelens – or follow @whatsonsthelens on Twitter.
