Skelmersdale West County Cllr Julie Gibson, Shadow Lead Member for Economic Regeneration, has welcomed the announcement of the opening of the Local Initiative Fund (LIF) for 2017/2018.

The Fund is open for bids across Lancashire and over £177,000 is available across the 12 districts. The LIF Scheme provides the opportunity for third sector groups and organisations in Lancashire to apply for grants between £1,000 – £5,000 if their project supports one of three priorities:

  • Supporting Families;
  • Providing Skills and Employment Initiatives;
  • Providing Activities and Programmes for Young People aged 12 – 19 (up to 25 for people with learning difficulties or disabilities);

Cllr Gibson said: “The Fund is there to enable and support groups across Lancashire working within their communities to help make a difference to residents in those communities.  The priorities identified aim to target some of our most vulnerable residents enabling them to play a full and active part in their community.”

Deadline for applications to be submitted is Friday 1 September 2017 at 5pm. Organisations will be informed about the outcome of their grant in November 2017.

Cllr Gibson said: “The application pack can be downloaded from the County Council website by following the link below.
