Funding of £51,000 to support the growth of social enterprise and volunteering in Knowsley was approved at last week’s Cabinet meeting, on 17 July, 2019 www.knowsleynews.co.uk/whats-on-the-agenda-at-cabinet-wednesday-17-july-2019.

The funding, from the council’s Community Fund, will be used to support three projects, which are:

Increasing parent participation across the borough

A grant of £10,500 was approved for the Knowsley Parent Carers Voice (KPCV) to help it to increase parent participation. KPCV offer essential support to parents and carers of children and young people with special education needs and / or disabilities (SEND). They have been working closely with those agencies who provide services such as health, education and social care to encourage them to work together when designing the services to help parents and carers. KPCV also encourage parents and carers to tell them what they think about services and where things could be improved, so that the agencies can make improvements where they are needed.

Green Care Growing Hub

A grant of £20,000 was awarded to recruit a Volunteer Development Officer at Knowsley Incredible Edible. This person will help organise outdoor volunteering activities which are suitable for those people who are currently using the Adult Social Care Day Services and people hoping to improve their job prospects. The project will use green spaces across the borough to bring together a range of services and organisations to offer activities and events. The new Volunteer Development Officer will help people enjoy more independence, develop new skills and have the chance to meet others by taking part in a range of exciting and interactive activities.

LFC Foundation Kicks project

A grant of £20,000 was approved for the continuation of the LFC Foundation Kicks Project for young people aged 8-19 years in Kirkby, as well as the development of new sessions in Huyton. This project has been successful in helping young people to achieve new skills and grow in confidence.

Councillor Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “This is a great example of Knowsley Better Together www.knowsleynews.co.uk/category/knowsley-better-together – bringing people and organisations together for the benefit of Knowsley and its residents. The projects highlighted at Cabinet are just a few examples of where communities are coming together to deliver services and activities needed locally. I wish them all well and look forward to hearing about their outcomes over the coming months.”
