Four Generations of Local Family Head to Liverpool for Annual Event

Each year, for the past 44 years, Peter and Bobby Wilson have never missed a special event marked in their calendar. This year will mark the 45th time the married couple from Skelmersdale has attended the Regional Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

“In the early days”, remarks Peter, “there were less than one million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide. To have seen the growth to over 8 million today is remarkable!”

“We love attending the convention each year. It’s full of practical advice to help us deal with life’s challenges. We always come away feeling upbuilt and encouraged. It’s also an opportunity to catch up with old friends – fellowship is a huge part of it for us.” Having lived in the Isle of Man, Bootle, Broadgreen, Garston, Belle Vale and finally settling in Skelmersdale, the couple certainly have a lot of friends to catch up with.

The last few years have also been extra special, as they have been able to attend the convention along with their sons, daughter, granddaughter and now, great-grandchildren. “It’s so special to go together as a family of four generations”, says Peter, “the convention is a real event in our family!”

“We’re all looking forward to it in different ways. It is designed to help children in school, to improve family life and the assist those in the workplace to work more productively. There is something to benefit us all”.

The theme this year is “Be Courageous”! For the seventh year, it will be held at the Liverpool ACC. The event begins on Friday August 3 through to Sunday August 5. It starts at 9:20am each day. It is also free to attend.
