Find out more about waste transfer proposals

Local people are being invited to find out more about the council’s plans to build a new waste transfer facility in central Warrington.

As part of its work to reduce the costs and impacts of waste disposal, the council is proposing a new waste transfer building, just off the A49 Winwick Road, on a currently derelict site between the access route to Winwick Road Skip Hire and the Shell fuel station.

The council is proposing to submit a planning application at the end of February, and wants to give residents the opportunity to find out more about the proposals in advance of this. Two drop-in sessions are taking place at Orford Jubilee Hub, for the public to talk to officers about the plans and have their questions answered.

The drop-ins take place on the following dates:

  •    Thursday 22nd February, 10.00am – 4.00pm
  •    Monday 26th February, 4.30pm – 8.00pm

At present, Warrington’s waste is transported to Widnes, where is it collected into larger amounts before being removed for disposal elsewhere. The council’s proposal is to provide a building in Warrington where waste can be collected for a short time before it is transported for processing and disposal.

People can also view the details of the proposals online. There is a range of information, including “frequently asked questions”, at www.warrington.gov.uk/wastetransfer. Additionally, people can email the project team on waste.transfer@warrington.gov.uk or call the council’s contact centre on 01925 443322 if they have specific questions about the plans.

The council will be carrying out more engagement over the coming months and will regularly update the website with the latest information. Regular email updates will also be sent out, and people wishing to be added to the email list, should contact the council at waste.transfer@warrington.gov.uk.

There will be a consultation as part of the planning process and plenty of opportunity for local people to provide their views before the Planning Committee makes a decision in summer 2018.
