Edge Hill University has entered the top fifty UK universities in today’s (7 June) Guardian University Guide 2020 attaining 48th position in the UK and 39th in England.

As one of only four North West universities to reach the top 50, and one of only two to rise in the rankings, Edge Hill has cemented its place as one of the region’s best.

Aimed at students trying to choose a university, the Guardian Guide ranks universities on all the factors important to young people, including the standard of teaching, whether current students like the university and their subject, and their chances of getting a job.

Edge Hill has made improvements across each of these factors and recorded gains in course satisfaction and the percentage of graduates in a graduate level job or further professional studies within six months.

Nine of the University’s subject areas also made it into the top 50 for their discipline: Education, Drama and Dance, English, Business, Management and Marketing; Nursing and Midwifery; Journalism, Publishing and Public Relations, Biosciences, Sports Science and Psychology.

Computer Science leapt 34 places, with Drama and Dance climbing 30 places, Sports Science rising 23, Biosciences moved up 16 whilst both English and History rose 15 places.

Dr John Cater, Vice-Chancellor of Edge Hill University, said: “I’m delighted by this deserved recognition. We continue to work hard to make Edge Hill the university of choice for students, offering them high quality teaching, an outstanding student experience and, ultimately, equipping them with the skills they need for a successful career, and we believe that no other university can match the consistent improvement we’ve shown and continue to show.”
